2002 Summer Projects
The STOP International project for 2002 was to build and orphanage, secure it with fencing and plant a garden for the 33 children of the BESSO Children’s Home.
The land was purchased as part of the STOP Project 2001. The building was designed by architect Ken Halls, a Trustee of STOP International.
After the groundbreaking ceremony the work of construction began in July 2001. Fundraising projects were organised in England such as carol singing, cake sales, sponsored 24 hour badminton, sponsored head shaving, Indian take away and individual donations. In addition ADRA UK (a Global Relief Agency, www.adra.org.uk) contributed funds for the project. With all the funds in by April 2002 the construction work was approaching a conclusion by a local builder named Solomon.
In July 2002 a group of 14 volunteers travelled to Hosur, India to complete the remaining work of painting, plumbing, electrical fittings and tree planting. It was dedicated and officially opened before the group returned home, after giving a party for the children to celebrate the occasion.
The children moved in shortly afterwards and are now enjoying the security and comfort of their own building where the number has now increased to 73 children. STOP International also secured sponsors for BESSO children. Child sponsors are still required. For more info click here
